Keyword Selection

As we said in the previous issue, keyword selection is paramount to increasing traffic to your site. Keywords should be very carefully selected, and with great precision. There are several ways to arrive at accurate keywords, and at Siteology.net, we utilize as many methods as we can. The first, and most overlooked, is your own website traffic reports. Almost every site hosting service offers website traffic statistics - monthly, weekly, even daily. Many times these services are offered as a free complement to your site hosting service. You can use these reports to begin to understand what your visitors are looking for. And we do mean to begin to understand. Because if you see, for example, that the highest percentage of traffic has used the keyword "widgets," it means that those visitors found you on the search engines for that particular term. i.e., it's the term which works best for your website, not necessarily the most popular term for the category. Perhaps the most popular term is actually "blue widgets." If your site doesn't contain that term, you may not be found and you risk losing alot of traffic.
