size="3">How Do You Select Keywords / Keyphrases?

There are lots of sources for keywords and keyphrases for your website:

The most obvious source is a direct description of your product or service, e.g. widgets.  Next, be specific.  If blue widgets are what you're really selling, or if they're a new product, the keyword "widgets" becomes a keyphrase - "blue widgets."  But this is just the beginning.  What do your widgets do?  Do they solve a problem or fill a need?  For example, if your widgets help remove stains, you can bet the at the average surfer will search on a keyphrase like "removing stains" or "stained carpet."  If your product solves a problem like this, you'd be well advised to make sure that those keyphrases - and others like them - are used on the page(s) so that the search engines will find what the searcher is seeking.  It's a kind of reverse logic.  We call it "benefit/feature selling."  Because people will search for the benefit they seek rather than the product that offers the benefit.  After all, if they knew what the answer was, wouldn't they just go out and buy it?
